The IDOS research programme "Inter- and Transnational Cooperation” is looking to hire a

 

Researcher (m/f/diverse)

Full time 100% (39 hours/week)

Salary from € 55,000 p.a. up to € 80,000 p.a.

(German public sector tariff, EG13 or EG14 TVöD Bund depending on qualifications)

The position may be filled as of 1 January 2024 and is limited until 31 December 2026. The position is subject to final approval of funds.

 

The position is part of a research project on the role of effectiveness and efficiency as guiding concepts in development politics. The project explores the concrete interpretation and application of these terms in the context of a broader global results orientation ("results agenda") and alternative approaches ("adaptive development"). Specifically, effectiveness and efficiency will be defined as context-dependent standards, in order to explore three focal points of development politics: 1) quality standards and data for projects and processes; 2) thematic orientation of the policy field towards global public goods; 3) geopoliticisation of international standards.

 

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Excellent academic record based on a master and preferably PhD in political science, sociology, human geography, economics or other social science;
  • In-depth knowledge and research experience in the areas of development effectiveness and development policy, impact monitoring and evaluation, and bureaucracy research on development organisations or in a development context;
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed outlets on topics relevant for the position are a strong asset;
  • Proven knowledge in and experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies in social sciences;
  • Experience in translating research findings into policy advice is an advantage;
  • Very good written and spoken English skills; knowledge of German is a strong advantage;
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate. („Tropentauglichkeit“).
