Regionalism – Opportunities and Challenges
Regionalism generates opportunities and challenges. Regional negotiations, e.g. for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), potentially the largest free trade agreement worldwide, introduce a fresh dynamic into international trade issues – but, at the same time, they might create new difficulties for the global trading system. Against this background, the project analyses the impact of regionalism on developing countries and emerging economies and on global governance at large.

Project description
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and other so-called mega-regionals demonstrate that regional agreements are covering ever more trade flows and intruding ever deeper into national regulatory systems. The project investigates the effect of such mega-regionals on developing countries and emerging economies and for the global trading system.
