Research Network “Sustainable Global Supply Chains”
Global production and consumption is increasingly organised in supply chains. How these are organised affects economies, societies and the environment in many ways. The international Research Network Sustainable Global Supply Chains aim to contribute to the sustainability of global supply chains through research. It initiates new research and makes academic evidence accessible for political decision-makers and other stakeholders.

Project description
A large part of global value creation takes place in supply chains. These are characterised by specialization of firms in multiple countries in distinct production stages and by their inter-firm relations. Global supply chains affect economies, societies and the environment in many ways. Whether they comply with labour, human rights and environmental standards and to what extent technologies and profits are shared depends on lead firms, but also government regulation and involvement of other stakeholders.
Together with three German partner institutions (GIGA, IfW, SWP), DIE initiated the new international Research Network Sustainable Global Supply Chains, including 60-80 globally leading reseachers. Its aim is to contribute to the sustainability of global supply chains through research. It initiates new research and makes new findings accessible for political decision-makers and other stakeholders. The project has its own website, blog, a series of podcasts, policy briefs and events as well as (from 2022) an annual electronic flagship report.
