The Social Cohesion in Displacement Contexts (SoCoDisCo) research team at IDOS is seeking an intern for two months to support the team in writing a conceptual paper and literature review on the current state of the art in social cohesion and displacement research. In the face of natural disasters and conflicts that are displacing people globally, social cohesion, the vertical and horizontal aspects of identity, trust, and common interest that hold society together, will be critical. In order to aid policy makers in supporting communities hosting displaced people, IDOS is doing research on how social cohesion forms and can be supported in displacement contexts in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia. The results of this research will influence policy and programmes aimed at supporting displaced people and the communities that host them.
The intern will work directly with Dr. Charles Martin-Shields and Dr. Jana Kuhnt, the project co-leads, to develop a review-grade manuscript that will be used as the project’s conceptual basis. The SoCoDisCo team seeks an intern with the following attributes:
IDOS offers 300EUR per month as remuneration during the internship, as well as workspace at IDOS and access to the IDOS library and public events. The intern will be an active project team member and will gain knowledge and skills in policy advice and applied research. A letter of interest (2 pages max.) and CV should be sent to Mr. Raja Mohsin Khalid (governance@idos-research.de) by 6 October 2023.
Content-related questions can be sent to Dr. Charles Martin-Shields (Charles.Martin-Shields@idos-research.de).
