Job Advertisment: Project Lead for Shaping Futures

The programme "Inter- and Transnational Cooperation" is looking to recruit a Project Lead for Shaping Futures – African-European Network on Development and Sustainability from 01st February 2024, initially for a fixed term until 31.12.2026.

Shaping Futures is an international, English-language training and dialogue format hosted by IDOS in Bonn, Germany. It aims at early career professionals from selected African countries (https://www.idos-research.de/en/training/shaping-futures-academy/). The programme’s components include digital formats and annual face-to-face elements in Bonn, with trips to Berlin and Brussels, as well as further, research-based collaboration with various actors from African countries. Our focus is on developing skills and innovation for sustainable development, based on the Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda. Shaping Futures is embedded in IDOS’ research context that works on issues of global knowledge cooperation. It builds on and develops synergies with other training and research activities at IDOS.

 

The project lead of Shaping Futures is, inter alia, responsible for the following tasks:

  • Managing and further developing the programme (as project lead) with a team of four staff members at IDOS, closely collaborating and consulting with participants and partner institutions from African and European countries.
  • Developing a curriculum in partnership with African and European actors and developing the didactics in a peer learning format, as well as conception and implementation of interactive courses, including in digital formats.
  • Networking with and integration of external lecturers for the special needs of international group of participants from diverse professional backgrounds (science, government, society, business).
  • Building up academic work on dimensions of sustainability (economic, ecological, social, political) in African countries (Network development) and didactics for the target group (Academy development).
  • Selecting and supervising participants in close coordination with other academic and non-academic staff in the IDOS team.
  • Regularly communicating with the funding institution, an international advisory board and other stakeholders;
  • Preparing and following-up of third-party funding applications.
  • Engaging in teaching and policy dialogues in Germany, Europe and African countries.

 

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Excellent university degree at PhD level in political science, social science, economics or related disciplines,
  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English; very good command of German is desirable, French is an asset,
  • Knowledge of didactics and curriculum development for transnational peer learning and dialogue is particularly desirable,
  • Knowledge of sustainability and development in an African context, ideally including research and/or training experience in African countries,
  • Willingness and aptness to travel, including to countries with tropical climate (Tropentauglichkeit)
  • Experience in the leadership of professionally and culturally diverse teams.
