IDOS Research Programme “Transformation of Political (Dis-)order” is looking for a

 

Researcher (f/m/diverse) - Position No. 2023-D-04

Full time 100% up to 39 hours/week,

German public sector tariff, up to EG14 TVöD Bund depending on qualifications

Salary from € 52,000 p.a. up to € 66,000 p.a.

 

The position is to be filled as of 01st March 2024 and is limited to 31 December 2026. The position is subject to final approval of funds.

 

The selected researcher will contribute to research and policy advice within the project “Countering autocratization and polarization trends with democracy protection”. The project aims at analysing strategies to protect and promote democracy as well as to reduce polarization and advise national and international actors on most promising policy options in this area. The focus of this position lies in the field of digital technologies and politics and, in particular, on the role of digitalization and disinformation on global and national trends of autocratization and political and societal polarization.

 

Qualifications and requirements:

  • A PhD with excellent grades in one of the following areas: Political Science, Sociology, Communication Studies or related fields;
  • Excellent knowledge of quantitative research methods in social sciences, including data scraping of social media; knowledge of qualitative analysis and social network analysis is an asset;
  • Excellent academic record with international peer-reviewed publications on topics relevant for the position;
  • Research or work experience in developing countries is an important asset;
  • Experience in policy advice is a strong asset;
  • Proven experience and commitment to acquire third-party funding;
  • Self-reliant way of working and willingness to work and take responsibility within an interdisciplinary, globally dispersed team;
  • Ability to build and maintain networks at the science-policy interface;
  • Excellent communication skills and proven organizational skills;
  • Excellent command of English as well as very good knowledge in at least one other major UN language (preferably French or Spanish) or Portuguese; fluency in (or willingness to learn) German is expected;
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate.
