The German Institute of Development and Sustainability gGmbH (IDOS) is one of the leading research institutes in the field of sustainable development and development policy. Through excellent research, policy advice and training, the Institute contributes to finding solutions to global challenges. To support research staff with different tasks, the Programme “Transformation of Economic and Social Systems” at IDOS looking for three research assistants to contribute to several projects:
- Position 1. The research project "Contributions to stabilization and development in North Africa and the Middle East" (https://www.idos-research.de/en/mena/) looks for a research assistant to support its research and advisory activities on topics of social, political and economic development in the MENA region. Tasks will in particular include data preparation and analysis using quantitative methods. Applicants should be experienced with econometric methods, using e.g. STATA or at least the preparation and graphical representation of data with Excel. Knowledge of the MENA region and proficiency in literature reviews are an asset. Further language skills (German, French and/or Arabic) are of additional advantage. Preferred start: beginning of October; applications to Amirah.El-Haddad@idos-research.de, using “RA MENA” as subject line.
- Position 2. Joint position between the Green Economy Project and the research project "COVCLIM". COVCLIM integrates economics, political science and social science to shed light on the role of a carbon tax to finance social protection and underlying political and economic processes in implementation. The next project phase features a public acceptability study that explores designs of carbon polices and integrated social (protection) policies that increase public trust/acceptability. Tasks will include e.g. literature reviews and support in the study design, setup and data analysis. Python skills are considered a strong asset. As this is joint position, we are looking for one candidate that works for both projects. The research assistant would work a total of 16 hours per week spread over 2-3 days, supporting both projects. Preferred start: beginning of October; applications to mauricio.boehl@idos-research.de using “RA Joint Position” as subject line.
- Position 3. The research project “Fair Globalisation II” analyzes current topics in the fields of international trade, investment and finance through an economic and political lense. It is guided by the question how to create a global economic order that contributes to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and thereby ensures a fairer and more inclusive globalisation. Tasks typically include literature and data searches, literature reviews, quantitative tasks such as merging, cleaning and/or analysis of data, facilitation in and around workshops and conferences. Stata or R skills as well as some background in economics are strong assets. Preferred start: beginning of October; applications to Tim.Vogel@idos-research.de using “RA Fair Globalisation” as subject line.
The assistants will work around 8 hours per week, spread over 2 working days (position 2 differs, see description). Working at IDOS premises is required. Remuneration is based on the usual rates: 12 Euro/hour student assistant in bachelor studies or 13 Euro/hour academic assistant in master studies.
