German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Since the founding of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) 60 years ago, the environment of German development policy has changed fundamentally. In addition to traditional advanced economies and the European Union, major emerging economies and regional powers are now shaping economic and political developments. Global challenges and megatrends such as demographic change, scarcity of resources, and digitalization must be jointly addressed and shaped to meet the challenges of the future.
On the 60th anniversary of the BMZ, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) is taking this as an opportunity to sound out the future of German development policy in a panel discussion with international guests from academia and politics. After an introductory address by Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Director of DIE, the panel will discuss new topics and upcoming challenges for development policy and cooperation and how it could contribute effectively to the global common good. The panel debate will explore development policy from multiple approaches with focus on international, European and German voices as well as the youth's perspective on expectations for future (German) development policy. We are looking very much forward to a fruitful discussion amongst experts from academia, policy-makers and an active audience challenging the panel with critical questions and inputs.
