Directors

The German Institute of Development and Sustainability is headed by Prof. Dr. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Director, and Dr. Axel Berger, Deputy Director (interim) in close cooperation with the Head of Service Facilities, Margret Heyen. Anna-Katharina Hornidge leads the institute strategically and heads IDOS’ scientific management, while Dr. Axel Berger is in charge of the knowledge cooperation and training programmes. The director and the deputy director (interim) are actively engaged in research and play leading roles in national and international research and policy advisory networks by contributing to international and national scientific committees and advisory boards, including the Scientific Advisory Council of the German Government Global Environmental Change (WBGU), the Scientific Committee of the German UNESCO Commission, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Germany, as well as the G7 and G20 engagement groups Think7 and Think20. As Professor for Global Sustainable Development at the University of Bonn, Anna-Katharina Hornidge supervises multiple PhD research projects and cooperates with IDOS’ research staff in leading third-party funded research projects. The Institute is managed in close coordination with the heads of IDOS’ research programmes, the heads of the service facilities and the head of communications.
