Civic space is narrowing and civil society actors are facing growing pressure from repression to narratives that challenge their legitimacy. At the same time, initiatives like the Global Gateway reflect a shifting landscape in international cooperation, where strategic interests and democratic values increasingly intersect.
This webinar will explore how civil society is responding and reinventing itself, and how donors can support civic agency without reinforcing harmful tropes. It will also examine what it means to stay engaged in contested environments and identify opportunities to strengthen civic legitimacy and resilience.
We will begin with handing the floor to you, the audience, to set the tone with a Q&A opener.
Under dual-moderation by the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), panellists from Oxfam, IDOS and the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) will respond directly to the challenges raised, offering thoughts on how civil society and donors alike can navigate this narrative crossroads.
