Six years after the last MGG Global Network Conference (GNC), the MGG Network gathered again to reconnect, exchange and move from knowledge to action in cooperating for sustainability transformations at all levels. From 25 to 28 September 2023, the conference "Global Partnerships: Knowledge, Dialogue, and Action" brought together in Bonn up to 150 members of the MGG network and representatives of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Ministry of Culture and Sciences of North-Rhine Westphalia (MKW).

The MGG GNC 2023 re-united network members from all current MGG partner countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa + Germany and the EU) to share and co-create knowledge, exchange on pressing questions of global governance, and to ideate pathways that lead from knowledge to action for the complex transformations required for the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The programme was developed in a participatory approach on the basis of contributions from network members in three interrelated dimensions:

(1) Managing Global Governance and Global Partnerships: High-level dialogues and expert roundtables brought together perspectives on pressing global challenges and the global order in view of the future of global partnerships.

(2) Knowledge, dialogue and action towards sustainable development: Interactive formats in bigger and smaller groups allowed for peer-exchange on selected thematic areas, ranging from climate protection and digitalization to gender and value chains.

(3) MGG as a community of change makers: Presentations of change stories and workshops shed light on the achievements of MGG since 2007, energised the ‘we identity’ of network members and looked into pathways to further develop the community.

The conference was organised by the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) with financial support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
