The German Development Institute, Dii (Desert Power Industrial Initiative) and Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) have the pleasure of inviting you to a stakeholder consultation to discuss macroeconomic and employment effects of renewable energy deployment in the European Union (EU) and Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In the first part of the workshop, macroeconomic and sector-specific effects of solar and wind technology deployment in the EU-MENA region are evaluated based on modeling of various development pathways until 2050. In the second part, direct and indirect employment effects by sector and in different parts of the value chain will be assessed, using multiplier analyses in accordance with renewable energy investment pathways until 2050. In the third part, research findings will be translated into policies. Based on DIE research in Egypt and Morocco as well as Dii’s research, policy options to attract RE investments and to maximize their macroeconomic and employment effects are presented.
