As part of a three-year BMZ-funded DIE project on “Development and Transformation in Fragile States” the aim of this workshop is to foster the exchange between scholars and practitioners, by bringing together first-class researchers, government officials and other selected practitioners, to discuss and assess three research areas related to international interventions in fragility environments: the differentiation and classification of fragile states, the effectiveness of state-building in fragile contexts, and conflicting objectives in choosing and implementing policy instruments for international engagement in these contexts.
