Triggered by drastic funding shortfalls, the United Nations has embarked on a new reform initiative in its 80th year. A longstanding reform backlog and the need to adjust the United Nations to a changing global landscape only add to the urgency for significant reforms. The goal is to make the United Nations, in the words of the UN Secretary-General, “more effective, nimble, and fit for today’s challenges”. The workshop will bring together German government officials and experts from Germany and abroad to discuss in three sessions (i) current challenges of United Nations development cooperation, (ii) ideas for a revitalized United Nations, the roles and functions it should perform, and (iii) specific solutions.
