More climate risks, less cooperation: the erosion of international capacity to act

Looking back, 2015 was a true “window of opportunity”: Both the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Paris Climate Agreement were adopted. The current situation, however, is the opposite of such a moment. The 2026 communiqué from the G7 development ministers makes no mention of the 2030 Agenda, the SDG, or climate change. The U.S. administration under President Trump has succeeded in making even non binding international guiding principles politically taboo.
