DIE’s Department Head Jörg Faust will become the new Director of DEval

Jörg Faust, long-time Head of Department “Governance, Statehood, Security” at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) will become the new Director of the German Institute for Development Evaluation (Deutsches Evaluierungsinstitut der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit - DEval). This was announced by Hans-Joachim Fuchtel, the Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, on 15 April 2015.

DIE-Director Dirk Messner congratulated to this decision by stating: “Independent evaluations are important to secure transparency, effectiveness and efficiency in development cooperation. Jörg Faust possesses much methodical and conceptual experience which he has gathered during his time at the German Development Institute. As the new Director of DEval he will benefit from these skills. I wish him all the success for this exciting, but also challenging task and I am looking forward to future cooperation between the German Development Institute and DEval”.

Jörg Faust started working for DIE as Senior Researcher in 2003. He moved on to heading the Department “Governance, Statehood and Security” in 2007. He earned his professorship for Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen in 2014. In his research he focuses on democracy promotion, evaluation methods as well as bi- and multilateral development cooperation. Jörg Faust studied Political Science and Economics at the University of Mannheim. He earned his PhD from Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Development Research & Training Institutes (EADI) and a member of the scientific advisory board of Bertelsmann Transformation Index.
