Call for Applications: Short-Term Visiting Researcher (f/m/divers) Transformation of Economic and Social Systems
Call for Applications: 2 Short-Term Visiting Researchers (f/m/diverse) “Transformation of Economic and Social Systems”
The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) is one of the world’s leading research institutions and think tanks in the field of global sustainable development. It carries out policy advice and training tasks on the basis of its own independent research. The Research Programme “Transformation of Social and Economic Transformation” at IDOS focuses on four research areas: (1) world economy and development finance; (2) structural change and inclusive development; (3) green economy; and (4) social policy, poverty and inequality.
In 2024, the Research Programme “Transformation of Economic and Social Systems” offers two (2) short-term visiting researcher positions of around 4-6 weeks between April to December 2024. The positions offer applicants the opportunity to work on their own original research that aligns with the main areas of research of the Programme. The stay at IDOS provides an opportunity to build institutional linkages, to explore future research collaborations and exposure to the unique working environment in a research institute that is also an influential policy think tank.
Interested persons from all levels of seniority and all countries can apply, including PhD students who are in the writing phase of their doctoral work. Visiting researchers will be hosted at IDOS in Bonn, Germany.
Visiting Researchers will be expected to give a talk for the IDOS scientific staff on their research during their stay and could have the opportunity to co-author work in one of IDOS publication formats (https://www.idos-research.de/en/publications/). Applicants should highlight in their application which research cluster or cross-cutting issue their work fits into, which programme staff they would want to collaborate with and what this collaboration could consist of.
Selection Criteria:
- Applicants should be at least at the writing stage of their PhD dissertation
- Relevance of proposed research activities to the Programme’s thematic foci
- Applications from researchers based at institutions in Africa, Latin America, and Asia are especially encouraged to apply
Interested researchers should include in their letters:
- Letter of motivation explaining why IDOS and the Programme on Transformation of Social and Economic System would be a good fit for their work, and a brief description of expected outputs (around 2 pages)
- Curriculum vitae
- A proposed schedule of what they will do while in Bonn, and options for two time periods for the research stay (1 page)
- Ideally, a letter from their employer or PhD department confirming ongoing affiliation.
Travel and cost of stay at IDOS will be covered according to IDOS travel reimbursement policy. An honorarium is possible and will be calculated based on IDOS fee schedule. Guest researchers who require a visa to enter Germany will be provided with a letter of support if invited.
Please submit required materials electronically to Ms. Doris Theisen (doris.theisen@idos-research.de). All materials should be emailed as a single PDF with the subject line “Short-term guest researcher, FULL NAME”. The application deadline is February 25, 2024 at 23:59CET. Review of applications will be completed and invitations sent by March 12, 2024 at the latest.
