Safety nets: an underresearched topic

Social protection has become a major topic in the development debate. Economists have long known that the management of risks and poverty play an important role in the development process. It is thus astonishing that there is still neither an authoritative introduction into this topic nor a comprehensive overview, even though countless books, reports and essays are published on development issues every year.
