The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) is partner of the Green Growth Knowledge Platform

Press Release of 12 September 2013

The German Development Institute / Deutsches Insitut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) has been admitted as scientific partner of the Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP). The internet platform, which was initiated by international organisations such as the World Bank, promotes the exchange of knowledge between researchers and practitioners on the topics green growth and green economy. ”The platform provides an innovative way for the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) to make visible our long-standing expertise in sustainability strategies in developing and emerging countries. We bring in our knowledge about challenges and solutions that exist in these countries to realise green growth and financing models”, says Dirk Messner, director of DIE. Only institutions that have demonstrated expertise in the above mentioned areas can become official knowledge partners of the platform.

To make its research and consultancy approaches about green growth accessible to practitioners, DIE has been in close contact with other Think Tanks, international organisations and practitioners worldwide for quite some time. Marianne Fay, chief economist of the Sustainable Development Network (SDN) of the World Bank and member of the Council of the new knowledge platform, visited DIE in June 2013 for an open event to discuss the implications of the World Bank report Inclusive Green Growth: The Pathway to Sustainable Development. Already in March 2013, DIE had presented the Sustainable Development Solutions Networks (SDSN) of the United Nations in Germany and therewith underlined its engagement to advise on and implement innovative solutions for a sustainable future together with international partners.

The Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) in brief:
Besides researchers worldwide the Green Growth Knowledge Platform (GGKP) addresses political and economical decision-makers and representatives of Non-governmental organisations. The digital forum helps them to develop alternative growth strategies to bring economic growth and a sustainable protection of natural resources in harmony. The GGKP was founded by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Bank as well as a number of scientific partners engaged in green growth and green economy on the national and international level.

The Institute in Brief:
The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) is one of the leading Think Tanks for development policy world-wide. It is based in the UN City of Bonn. DIE builds bridges between theory and practice and works within international research networks. The key to DIE’s success is its institutional independence, which is guaranteed by the Institute’s founding statute. Since its founding in 1964, DIE has based its work on the interplay between Research, policy advice and Training. These three areas complement each other and are the factors responsible for the Institute’s distinctive profile.
Every Monday, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) comments the latest news and trends of development policy in The Current Column.
The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) is headed by Dirk Messner (Director). At present, the Institute has a staff of 100, two-thirds of whom are researchers.
