SDSNGermany project: Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project
The Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project (DDPP) is a joint international initiative that points out paths for individual countries to achieve a low carbon economy. In support, longterm quantitative projections for CO2 reduction have been created for the 15 countries that are responsible for 70% of CO2 emissions. Besides, scenarios were developed that are compatible with the goal of max. 2° Celsius global warming. The reports were issued to the French government in preparation for the COP 21. Wuppertal Institute worked on a country study for Germany, to illustrate Deep Decarbonization Pathway (DDP) analyses for the year 2050.
The German Development Institute analyzed conditions in Germany, China, Southafrica and the region of sub-Saharan Africa and argues, that the development of carbon-reduced or carbon-free pathways require understanding and transition of the economy of the energy sector.
SDSN and IDDRI share the lead of DDPP, all in all more then 30 knowledge organizations are involved.
