These are not easy times to think about reforming or even rebuilding the international cooperation architecture to meet the challenges facing humanity. When international law is bluntly disregarded, multilateral institutions get openly attacked and institutions for global solidarity are dismantled, it is only natural to defend what has been achieved as far as possible and, at best, to strive for incremental improvements. However, this entails the risk of remaining stuck in outdated patterns instead of looking for fresh solutions for a thoroughly changed world.

Die Machbarkeit und Notwendigkeit ständigen Wirtschaftswachstums werden zunehmend in Frage gestellt, vor allem im Kontext des Klimawandels und der aktuellen globalen Krisen. Degrowth-Ansätze, die Ressourcenverbrauch und -produktion reicher Länder verringern wollen, müssen aber Länder mit geringen Einkommen einbeziehen, um neokoloniale Strukturen zu verhindern und mehr Gerechtigkeit in globalen Systemen zu schaffen.
Debates on the feasibility and necessity of continuous economic growth have increased, not least due to the urgent need for action to mitigate climate change and the current polycrises. Thinking about degrowth models to reduce material consumption and production in the richer countries must strongly involve lower-income countries to avoid a neo-colonial research agenda. It is also closely linked to the need for greater equity in global systems
