Event Overview

In 2021, the G20 pledged to rechannel USD 100 billion of the IMF’s Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to developing countries. Since then, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have proposed an innovative hybrid capital mechanism that could multiply the impact of SDRs by a factor of three to four. Yet, no country has committed to this approach so far.

The Seville Compromise, the outcome document of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), urges countries to act swiftly and support this mechanism by the end of 2025. This side event will explore the reasons behind the lack of participation and propose actionable steps to secure commitments from at least five contributing countries.
