The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provides a comprehensive response to pressing global challenges: 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a universal framework for developing, emerging and industrialised countries, systematically integrating the environmental, social and economic dimensions of global development. Public institutions, business and civil society in all parts of the world now face the task of advancing SDG implementation domestically and also globally.
Managing Global Governance (MGG), a dialogue, research and training programme implemented by the DIE with partners from emerging economies since 2007, draws on the 2030 Agenda in many ways. It was therefore at the centre of this year’s conferences with alumni of the MGG Academy in the six MGG partner countries Brazil, China, Mexico, India, Indonesia and South Africa. The Alumni Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia was held jointly by DIE and the long-standing MGG partner Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on 2 March 2016. The importance of participatory governance and accountable institutions for local SDG implementation was one of the topics discussed. A detailed agenda can be downloaded here.
The 14th MGG Academy for highly qualified young professionals from rising powers starts in August 2016 at the DIE. It comprises among other elements a two-month Global Governance School (GGS), training units for soft skills development as well as a two-week seminar at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
MGG is implemented on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
