In June 2020, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) together with Wuppertal Institute organised a series of discussions on the future of the UN climate conferences. The online workshop series examined how the nature of the annual meeting of the COP to the UNFCCC may be shaped in the future to make the best use of this global focusing event for climate action. Specifically, how may the COP evolve to shift its focus from negotiation to implementation. These "Co-chairs reflections" summarize the main outcomes of the workshop series concerning inter alia the COP's effectiveness and legitimacy, the quest to align related policy agendas, the relevance of non-Party actors and the question of who could drive institutional change under the UNFCCC?
