Populist parties have recently gained prominence in many countries across the global South and global North. This chapter analyses the example of populist radical right parties in Europe and other OECD countries and their influence on development policy as a specific external relations’ policy field. It examines the positioning of PRRPs on development policy and reviews the current state of research regarding their direct and indirect influence on development policy. The chapter shows how PRRPs engage with development policy as a means to advance their core norms, values and objectives, particularly related to migration. Moreover, the chapter argues that mechanisms of their influence that were established in comparative politics research on PRRPs’ role in migration policy also “travel” to development policy.
