The issue of climate-induced losses and damages has taken centre stage at the recent UN climate change conference „COP27“ in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. This brief puts the respective outcomes of COP27 in the broader context of multilateral climate governance and emphasises their significance for rebuilding trust in its processes. It argues that the decisions taken at COP27 signal a game changer for international climate negotiations, prompted in no small part by inadequate progress in increasing global mitigation ambition.
