The German Institute of Development and Sustainability gGmbH (IDOS) is one of the leading research institutes in the field of sustainable development and development policy. Through excellent research, policy advice and training, the institute contributes to finding solutions to global challenges.
To support research staff with different tasks, the Department “Transformation of Economic and Social Systems” at IDOS is looking for a research assistant. The position will contribute to a range of tasks within the department. The department, for example, analyses current topics in international trade, investment and finance through an economic and political lens. It is guided by the question of how to create a global economic order that contributes to achieving the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and thereby ensures a fairer and more inclusive globalisation.
Tasks typically include literature and data search, literature reviews, quantitative tasks such as merging, cleaning and/or data analysis, and support the facilitation in and around workshops and conferences. Stata or R skills and a background in economics are strong assets.

The position requires a minimum of 8 hours of work per week, spread over two working days. Work at IDOS premises is required. Remuneration is based on the usual rates for students and academic assistants. The initial contract will run until 31 March 2026 and is intended to be extended.
Requirements: Applicants must
- be enrolled at a German University in a BA or MA programme, but must not yet have an MA/MSc degree [Candidates who already have an MA/MSc degree are unfortunately not eligible for formal reasons, even if they are enrolled in another MA/MSc],
- study economics, political science, sociology, psychology, or related subjects,
- have quantitative and software skills (STATA, R, Python, etc.),
- be enrolled at their current university for at least one more year,
- have a strong interest in the topic of development and/or sustainability,
- be motivated and contribute pro-actively to the projects,
- have strong English language skills (C1 level),
- be able to work independently and deliver tasks reliably and on time.
