Der deutsche Diplomat Achim Steiner soll die Leitung des Entwicklungsprogramms der Vereinten Nationen (UNDP) übernehmen. Steiner ist ein Alumnus des Postgraduierten-Programms am DIE, welches seit 1965 Entscheidungsträgerinnen und -träger für bilaterale und multilaterale Zusammenarbeit ausbildet. 1985 war Steiner Albsolvent des 21. Ausbildungskurses und ist dem Institut seit dieser Zeit verbunden.
Am Samstag, den 22. April 2017, findet ab 13 Uhr in Bonn ein „March for Science“ statt. Rund 80 Institutionen aus der Region beteiligen sich daran. Auch das Deutsche Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) unterstützt den Aktionstag in Bonn und setzt ein Zeichen für die Freiheit und Stärkung der Wissenschaft gegen nationale Abschottung und populistische Debattenführung.
