The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus recognizes the interlinkages between the these sectors and highlights the importance of integrated solutions to address climate change issues with minimal, concerted trade-offs. In recent years, the WEFE Nexus has gained political traction as an important element of the ambitious climate targets of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

In order to support the performance and integrity readiness of WEFE Nexus initiatives, WIN and GIZ are jointly highlighting the integrity perspective and best practices in Nexus dialogues. In collaboration with BWN, this webinar is for WEFE Nexus stakeholders to share knowledge and learn about ongoing and evolving governance, integrity mechanisms and political-institutional conditions within WEFE Nexus.

Successful WEFE Nexus approaches will require coordination and integration across levels of government (vertical), as well as across sectors (horizontal). An ongoing WEFE Nexus project on strengthening integrity within WEFE Nexus Dialogue between GIZ and WIN shows that such coordination has many challenges, both technical and governance-related, linked to the need to assess common risks, ensure a balanced decision-making process, mobilize joint funding, and develop joint action plans towards common objectives. Addressing governance and integrity concerns within a WEFE Nexus initiative can make these processes more efficient and effective, and help attract Nexus-related investments. Building capacity of stakeholders to understand and address integrity challenges in WEFE initiatives must therefore be a priority.
