The virtual Workshops to discuss the contributions to the Book Project “Law, politics and economics of international disciplines on investment facilitation” are jointly organised by the German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and the Center for International Economic Law and Policy (CIELP), Law School, University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). The workshop benefitted from the generous support of the LEGINVEST project, a Research Council of Norway-financed project at the Pluricourts Centre for Excellence, Faculty of Law, University of Oslo.

The Virtual Workshops will take place on three different occasions: 26 October, 5 and 20 November 2020.

While policy discussions on the scope, benefits and challenges of international disciplines on investment facilitation are increasingly dynamic, legal, political science and economic scholarship on these issues is largely lacking. This book project, bringing together leading scholars from different disciplines and geographies, tries to fill this significant gap in the literature. The contributions of this book will provide new insights in the possible scope of a potential international investment facilitation framework at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its relationship to domestic investment-related frameworks as well as other WTO agreements and international investment agreements. The book will also investigate the political economy dimension of establishing an international investment facilitation framework asking who the actors are who promote international disciplines on investment facilitation. Furthermore, the book will simulate the economic effects of an international investment facilitation framework.
