The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), through its Managing Global Governance (MGG) Programme organized the Panel Discussion: Insights of the established National Multi-Stakeholder Platforms at the 2nd International Convention on Sustainable Trade and Standards on 16-18 September 2019 in Rio de Janeiro.

This contribution was part of MGG’s long-standing collaboration with the United Nations Forum on Sustainability Standards (UNFSS), which is a joint initiative of 5 UN agencies: UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Trade Centre (ITC), UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and UN Environment. UNFSS addresses the sustainable development value of Sustainability Standards by pooling resources, synchronizing efforts, and assuring policy coherence through a multi-stakeholder approach.


Panel Discussion
Insights of the established National Multi-Stakeholder Platforms

Do Governmental agencies have a role in promoting VSS in order to achieve the SDGs? How can they support in raising the awareness? Some of the established National Platforms were sharing their insights and experiences as they contextualised the existing multilateral frameworks of sustainable trade. These National Platforms were in the right position to exchange good sustainability standards practices among each other, and other potential platforms.
