Information
Poverty eradication has been at the heart of development cooperation and government interventions for decades. In order to alleviate poverty, it is necessary to understand what poverty is and how poverty can be measured. This chapter is concerned with these issues. It outlines key concepts which underpin the various poverty measurements, discusses the different indices of poverty - both in the monetary and multidimensional space - and finally, investigates empirically the relationship between income and multidimensional poverty on a large sample of low- and middle-income countries.
