Job advertisement: Research assistant (f/m/diverse) Project “Stability and Development in the Middle East and North Africa”

The German Institute of Development and Sustainability gGmbH (IDOS) is one of the leading research institutes on development policy. Through excellent research, policy advice and training, the Institute contributes to finding solutions to global challenges.

To support with research and advisory tasks, the project "Contributions to stabilization and development in North Africa and the Middle East" is looking for a new student / research assistant (f/m/diverse).

The assistant will work around 8 hours per week, spread over 2 working days. Working at IDOS premises is required. Remuneration is based on the usual rates for student and academic assistants.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be enrolled at a German University,
  • study economics, political science, sociology or similar main subject,
    possibly in addition to Near East area studies or Orientalism,
  • be enrolled at least one more year at their current university,
  • not yet have a MA degree [Candidates who already have an MA degree are unfortunately not eligible for formal reasons, even if they are enrolled in another MA],
  • have experience in researching political and social and economic developments in different countries, whereby knowledge of developments in the Middle East and North Africa as well as of development cooperation are assets,
  • be fluent in English and ideally French and/or German (with Arabic being an additional advantage),
  • are experienced with econometric methods and STATA or at least the preparation and graphical representation of data with Excel.
