Economist (f/m/d) – Position No. 2023-B-05

Full time 100% (39 hours/week)

Salary from € 55,000 p.a. up to € 80,000 p.a.

(German public sector tariff, up to TVöD Bund 14 depending on qualifications)

 

The position may be filled as of 1 January 2024 and is limited until 31 December 2026. The position is subject to final approval of funds.

 

As a member of the research cluster “World Economy and Development Economics”, the selected economist will contribute to research and policy advice on global economic challenges. In particular, we seek a scholar with expertise on international trade, global value chains (GVCs) and/or foreign direct investment (FDI).

 

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Excellent academic record based on a PhD in economics or related disciplines;
  • Proven knowledge and experience in one or more of the following issue areas, preferably with a focus on developing and emerging economies: international trade, global value chains (GVCs), foreign direct investment (FDI);
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed outlets on topics relevant for the position are a strong asset;
  • Strong quantitative methods skills; additional experience with mixed-method designs is an asset;
  • Willingness to engage in policy advice; previous experience is an asset;
  • Experience with third-party funding acquisition and applications submitted to various science-funding donors are an asset;
  • Very good written and spoken English skills; knowledge of German is an advantage;
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate („Tropentauglichkeit“).
