In 2023, topics such as the war of Russian aggression in Ukraine, nuclear non-proliferation, economic security and strategic autonomy, artificial intelligence and demographics were at the top of the G7 agenda. On the subject of climate change, Anna-Katharina Hornidge (German Institute of Development and Sustainability) underlined that, in the field of climate change, there are a number of tools and mechanisms to maintain international commitments for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and for strengthening climate finance.

Experts Weigh in on Meaningful Youth Engagement in Policymaking
The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) convened an online event to discuss the main findings of a policy brief on meaningful youth engagement issued by the UN Secretary-General to “provide more detail” on proposals contained in Our Common Agenda (OCA). Silke Weinlich, IDOS, recalled the findings of the report of the High-Level Advisory Board on Multilateralism (HLAB), which calls for a youth office and accountability structures for youth inclusion.

The Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals: evolving connections
There is growing evidence that climate action necessitates a transition that addresses all dimensions of sustainability. Similarly, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda cannot be successfully implemented without strong action on climate change. The NDC-SDG Connections tool, developed jointly by SEI and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), shows how activities in countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) connect to all 17 SDGs.

Nach Ansicht des Migrationsexperten und assoziierten IDOS-Wissenschaftlers Benjamin Schraven, der zu klimabedingter Migration forscht, wäre es aus ethischer Sicht wünschenswert, wenn Deutschland Aufenthaltsprogramme für Personen schaffen würde, die besonders vom Klimawandel betroffen sind. Allerdings sieht er politische Mehrheiten dafür auf absehbare Zeit nicht.

But the German government in the past has explicitly expressed that climate refugees cannot claim asylum in Germany. “You have to say goodbye to the point of view that climate change is a main reason for migration. The Department of Finance (DOF), together with the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI), called for stronger inter-agency cooperation to reduce wasteful tax expenditures and boost trust in the tax system for more effective revenue mobilization. Die Macht des Düngers
Die landwirtschaftlichen Erzeugnisse Russlands, darunter die drei wichtigsten Düngemittelarten Kali, Phosphat und Stickstoff, sind nicht von Sanktionen betroffen. Schwierigkeiten bei Geschäften mit Russland gibt es dennoch. "Das liegt zum Teil an Ungenauigkeiten bei der Definition und bei Ausnahmen von Boykottprodukten. Wie wichtig sind Heimatüberweisungen für Herkunftsländer
Jedes Jahr überweisen Migrant*innen Milliarden Dollar in ihre Heimatländer. Diese Rücküberweisungen haben eine hohe Bedeutung in den entsprechenden Ländern. Dadurch können Gesundheits- und Bildungsausgaben getätigt werden. Die Höhe der Rücküberweisungen sollten jedoch nicht direkt mit den Geldern für Entwicklungszusammenarbeit verglichen werden. Entwicklungszusammenarbeit zielt auf Infrastrukturmaßnahmen aller Art. Private Gelder können diese Investitionen niemals ersetzen, sagt Benjamin Schraven.

Trelew fue seleccionada por el Banco Mundial como un caso exitoso en el manejo de residuos sólidos urbanos
"Nuestra ciudad fue escogida por un trabajo realizado en conjunto entre la Dirección de Gestión Ambiental de la Municipalidad de Trelew y el Instituto Alemán de Desarrollo, que tuvo lugar en noviembre de 2018.
